   AI for Good  

In an article for Global Government Forum, Imogen Parker, a Director at the Ada Lovelace Institute, argues for better evidence on AI efficacy and impacts if it is to be used fairly and safely in the public sector.  

   Bias and Ethics  

 

This Center for AI Policy report identifies three pressing risks from AI agents – catastrophic misuse, gradual human disempowerment and workforce displacement – and sets out guardrails for autonomous AI agents.  

A new book on the Ethics of AI by Rainer Mühlhoff is free to download and offers a critical examination of AI and its impacts on our everyday interactions and social norms in ways that fundamentally reshape society.  

The UK Ministry of Justice has released its AI and Data Science Ethics Framework describing how to design governance processes to promote ethical principles.  

   Cyber Security  

TechRadar believes that AI is powering a “dramatic surge” in cyberthreats as automated scans hit 36,000 per second.  

Influential AI thought-leader Yoshua Bengio is launching a nonprofit AI safety lab called LawZero to build safer AI systems as he says he had little faith in OpenAI and Google to prioritize safety.  

TechRepublic reports on a study showing that AI is driving a big jump in cyber attacks on businesses averaging 1,925 incidents per week in Q1, a 47% increase over last year.

The UK Incubator for Artificial Intelligence (i.AI) has announced its AI Knowledge Hub to help public sector teams explore, adopt and apply AI responsibly.  

ComputerWeekly reports that the UK Cabinet Office has published a framework to support the adoption of GenAI in the public sector based on lessons from the use and scaling up of the Assist tool for creating and reviewing content.  

A new study by the Alan Turing Institute calls for more involvement of children in AI decision making, better policy frameworks and more industry action to protect the wellbeing of children interacting with AI tools such as ChatGPT.  

The Atlantic believes that Big Tech’s AI endgame is becoming clearer — creating “everything apps” that we use all the time for every task.  

The long-anticipated release of the UK Strategic Defence Review (SDR) prominently positions AI as a key focus for the future of UK defence and promises large investments in AI research and adoption.  

A new report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) explores the accelerating combination of technologies such as AI, quantum computing and engineering biology and how they transform industries and unlocking new economic and societal value.  

  Productivity & Efficiency  

UKAuthority reports that Litchfield Council is the first to deploy AI driven search to deliver tailored responses for residents to get the help quickly and efficiently.  

ComputerWeekly reports on a UK government trial of using Microsoft Copilot with 20,000 civil servants which it said demonstrates they could save nearly two weeks each annually by using the technology.  

Andreesen Horowitz (a16z) have looked through their latest investment data and concluded that AI startups are working faster than ever, and both businesses and consumers are demonstrating high willingness to pay for new products.  

  Regulation and Compliance  

The Guardian reports that the UK government has signaled that it will not force tech firms to disclose how they train AI, in its on-going dispute with the House of Lords, over copyright protection.  

The UK government has published a new study on the factors influencing business adoption of AI and other digital technologies concluding that additional standards would help businesses feel more confident about using technologies safely.  

The Future Society's new report is is the first comprehensive analysis of how AI agents are regulated in the European Union. It concludes that managing agent risks effectively requires governance along the entire value chain.  

AI Frontiers asks if we’re ready for AI liability in the absence of federal legislation, the burden of managing AI risks has fallen to judges and state legislators.  

   Sustainability  

ZDNET asks how much energy does AI really use, and concludes that the answer is surprising - and quite complicated.  

  User Experience  

Fast Company believes that AI is sparking a cognitive revolution, reshaping how students, workers, and artists write, design, and decide.  

Insider offers its guidance on how to use GenAI for customer experience building.  

  Workforce & Skills  

PwC’s 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer reveals that AI can make people more valuable, not less – even in the most highly automatable jobs.  

The Guardian considers if AI will wipe out the first rung of the career ladder as GenAI reshapes the job market — starting with entry-level roles.
